This series of portraits are a collection of photographs of people who Juli enjoys to create.
Portraits represent the artist's start with photographs since she first got a camera in the late 90's, and it is also a way she finds to communicate current issues, also a way to interact with people and to be able to learn about their cultures, their stories and their lives. These photographs include images from fictitious characters, strangers, friends, families to commissions and personalities, who are mostly in the arts, humanitarian or environmental fields.

Night Forest Billboards
A commission by the Royal Academy of Arts
The Royal Academy of Arts, in partnership with Buildhollywood and Camden Market, have commissioned five artists connected to Brazilian culture to respond to the RA’s Brasil! “Brasil! The Birth of Modernism, a major exhibition. The artworks on display, including an outdoor gallery in Camden, plus multiple large billboards around London, highlight the enduring influence of the modernist movement on today’s artistic practice. The creative intervention also complements a new mural featuring the work of iconic Brazilian modernists Tarsila do Amaral and Djanira.
“ The Night Forest, is part of a botanical and environmental series made out of a collection of plants and flowers and other elements, all captured by the artist herself in different seasons and locations.
Juli Manara explores the vibrant colours and highlights the intensity of forests, which change constantly with the time, the seasons, the climate and their surroundings.
Born and raised in Southeastern Brazil, Juli spent part of her life near the Atlantic Forest. Despite so little surviving, it remains remarkably rich in biodiversity, but sadly, many of them are threatened with extinction”
