The Botanist

Here is the first sculpture project “ O Botanista” we have worked since 2024, in partnership with Pietra Digital in São Paulo, for a temporary exhibition at the Embassy of Brazil in London, this year.

MiniB, in a black hoody coat, is the first figure created back in 2010, and seen in most of the black and white photo works. MiniB represents our existence as humans, and for this reason , this character became the main idea behind the design of this figurative sculpture, representing the start of a creative path in the last 15 years.

“- ‘The Character inhabiting this work is a recurring figure in the artist’s universe, a being not defined solely by individuality but transformed into a symbol, a metaphor for displacement, identities and transformations.
Here, The Botanist emerges as someone who has left Brazil in search of a new territory, crossing geographies and climates, from tropical landscapes to the European cold weather. The character’s attire reflects this contrast: wearing a winter coat yet remaining barefoot, holding a sneaker as if in a constant state of transition and adaptation. In the hands, The Botanist carries a manacá, a native Brazilian flower and a symbol of connection between past and present, between distant territories that intertwine.”

As a VEJA admirer, especially because of their eco responsibility, including in the Amazon, we have made a “V” detail on the figure’s shoes, which is connected to the brand’s sustainable sneakers (a company which was born in Brazil in 2005). It aims to share and promote awareness of responsible consumerism and ethics in fashion.
